The buzz surrounding this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing hints that the team could be designing a faster-paced experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, player agency, and flexible progression—elements that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths only possible with a specific type of character with a unique decision path.
The series is also famously flexible, allowing players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, often in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, players can get ready for another adventure in this legendary franchise.
